Good News Bad News

I guess we will start with the Good news. For those of you who don't know. Eventt was nominated for Young Retailer of the Year award. He has received many amazing nice letters of recommendation from many different people. I decided to write one of my own to him. I don't know if he will use it or not, cause its not "proper" to have a recommendation letter from a family member. I thought I would share it though. Here it is:

March 2, 2009

It was no surprise to me at all when my husband, Eventt Norris came home one day and said that he was nominated for “Young Retailer of the Year” award. I started dating Eventt when we were in high school. I guess you could say we were high school sweethearts at the age of 16. When I started dating Eventt he was already running his family’s Do-It Best Hardware in Berne, Indiana. It was quite impressive to me how mature he was and that he could actually run a business and attend High school. There were many times Eventt had to miss doing “kid things” as we were growing up, so he could keep up on his Hardware responsibilities. I often thought it was sad he missed so much growing up because of his sick parents and the need to keep the Hardware going, but today all the struggles have seemed to pay off. The knowledge and dependability that his parents taught him have made him the Hardware man, husband, and father that I love today.
After High School graduation, I went off to Nursing School and obtained my Registered Nurses degree. Eventt continued to run the Serv-Us Store. We decided to get married on March 18, 2000. I’m not sure I really knew what I was getting into marrying a business owner, but with ease Eventt found out how to run a business, and be a devoted husband. After we had our first daughter Lillian, Eventt told me he was ready to peruse his dream of purchasing a new and bigger Hardware store. I trusted him and said “let’s do it,” after all he had already been doing this for many years.
We eventually bought the Hardware store in Ossian and Eventt immediately got to work. Working as a Registered Nurse in a local Emergency Room, taking care of our two girls, and home, leaves me with very little time to work with Eventt at the Hardware. Even though I spend little time at the store, it is evident to me that Eventt is a great manager, and a dependable boss who is task oriented all while keeping the customers his first priority. I believe this is why our current Ossian Do-It Best Hardware is growing and growing. He is always sharing with me his next dreams and goals for the Hardware. I know that he will soon add a few specialty areas such as Case knives and Canning supplies. Within the next few years he wants to own another hardware store or a stand alone Rental Store. I will continue to support his business decisions, because I have seen first hand that he has the skill and knowledge to be successful.
Eventt not only is very good at what he does at the Hardware, he is also a dedicated husband and a wonderful dad to our two daughters. I look forward to the many more years we have together and for our daughters to soon be little Hardware girls. Eventt is not only the perfect candidate for the Young Retailer award; he deserves the recognition for all his hard work.
Eventt, I know sending in this letter of recommendation from your wife is not perfectly proper, but even if you don’t submit this letter you will know how I feel and it has given me this opportunity to thank you for all your hard work. I love you.

Ok now with the bad news. Pucker is not doing good. We took him to the vet yesterday because he has lost tons of weight the past few weeks and yesterday he was vomiting and just not acting himself. They suggested running $300 (at least) worth of testing to find out what is wrong. We decided to let the vet give him 3 shots (antibiotic, nausea shot, diarrhea shot) and gave him a fluid bolus for dehydration. He has done VERY little today. Mostly just laid in his cage. I did get him to drink and eat a little can food a little bit ago, but he is pretty miserable. I think it may be time to make a decision to put him to sleep. Its hard to justify doing all the x-rays and labs just to find out he has something terminal and we need to put him down anyway. He will be 12 years old this year and the vet said the average age for schnauzers is 12. It hard to do. I have had him now for those 12 years and its kinda sad to make a decision like this. Lillian knows he is sick cause she sees me give him special food and she knows he went to the vet yesterday. I'm not sure what she will do or what we will tell her when he dies.
Anyway that's a few things happening in our house now.
